Abigail Nicole Guthrie

April 13, 1999 ~ December 15, 2019 (age 20)

Obituary

Abigail Nicole Guthrie, 20, was welcomed into heaven on Sunday night, December 15, in Bloomington, IN.

She was born April 13, 1999, in Indianapolis, IN to Troy and Rachel Guthrie.

She was a 2017 graduate of Edgewood High School and was pursuing a nursing degree at Ivy Tech University.

Abigail was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend. She spent her energy and devoted her life to family and friends. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She loved music and dancing. The happiest times of her life were spent making memories with her family and friends, whether going to concerts, traveling, hammocking, snuggling with her dog, Ochi, or just taking a nap. She loved the artwork of tattoos, including one of hers from Psalm 37:24 that reads, “Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”

Abigail is survived by her parents and brother, Brandt Guthrie of Bloomington; grandparents Bob and Anne Todd of Bedford, IN; great grandmothers, Maxine Todd and Mildred Hillenburg of Bedford; aunts, Shara Purdy, Amanda (Adam) Flynn, April (Bryce) Haskett all of Bedford; and too many cousins to list but loved so much.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Patricia Guthrie and Larry Guthrie of Bedford; great grandparents Ernie Todd, Clyde Hillenburg, and Argus and Juanita Young.

Abigail was baptized into Christ on July 2, 2017 by Brandt and was a member of Ellettsville Christian Church. She also attended the local Chi Alpha ministry at Indiana University where she loved her core group. Abigail loved going on missions trips and serving the people of Beecher Town, Jamaica. Abigail attended many summers at Wonder Valley Christian Camp that helped shape her into a beautiful follower of Christ.

Although Abigail graduated for Edgewood, she spent her early years in Monrovia, IN and Mitchell, IN. While in Monrovia, the youth group where Troy and Rachel served gave her the nickname Abage Patch, or Abage. (If anyone ever called her Abby, she was quick to correct them that “was not her name, my name is Abigail.”)

Abigail attended elementary school and most of middle school in Mitchell, where she developed lasting friendships, her love of singing and performing, and played travel basketball.

After moving to Ellettsville, she attended Edgewood Junior High and Edgewood High School. While here, Abigail loved show choir and many friends who were still dear to her. After high school, Abigail developed so many friendships that she held so close. Abigail loved well and was loved well by too many to list individually.

Those wishing to honor her may do so by contributing to a scholarship fund that will be used for mission trips to Jamaica and graduates of Edgewood High School. Donations can be made to the Abigail Guthrie Memorial Fund at any People’s State Bank or online at https://ellettsvillecc.com/go/abigail-guthrie-memorial-fund.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 20 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Ellettsville Christian Church (731 Independence St., Ellettsville, IN).  A celebration of her life will be held at Ellettsville Christian Church on Saturday, December 21 at 2:00 PM. Josh Haltom (formerly of Monrovia) will be officiating with Nate Karnes leading songs.

The family asks that visitors wear their favorite concert or musical shirt to honor Abigail’s love for music.
