Allen “Ike” Grimes of Ellettsville passed away at IU Health-Bloomington Hospice House on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the age of 87. All who know him will fondly remember his warm smile, generous heart, and serving spirit that impacted so many during his time on this earth.
Ike was a life-long Monroe County native born here on January 9, 1932. He was married to Joyce L. (Still) Grimes on October 23, 1948, celebrating 71 years together. Ike started his career at Matthews Stone Mill as a Planerman and then went into business for himself starting Grimes Plumbing in 1966 until his retirement. Ike worshiped at the Ellettsville First Assembly of God Church where he was an active member. He shared the word of the Lord as a member of the Monroe County Corrections Facility Ministries, the Basic Life Institute Prison Ministry, and as a member of Gideons International.
Ike is survived by his loving wife, Joyce L. Grimes; children, Rich Grimes (Terri) of Bloomington, Jan L. Victor (Steven) of Chicago and Marilyn K. Grimes of Bloomington; grandchildren, Anthony Grimes, Daniel Grimes, James Fender, David Fender, Jessica Victor, Josh Victor, Beth McConnell, Jake Grimes and Johnny Bill Grimes; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and one on the way; sisters, Sharon Moore of Bloomington and Lois Terrell of Jordan Village, IN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Hinkle and stepfather, Louis “Pate” Hinkle; son, John Grimes, and siblings, Kenneth Hinkle and Martha Hinkle.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ellettsville First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Bob Holyfield officiating. Burial is to follow at Chambersville Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Chandler Funeral Home on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday.
