Arthur “Bud” Melvin Kern, 75 of Gosport passed away at IU Health-Bloomington Hospice House with his family by his side on Saturday, January 27, 2018.
Bud was born in Bedford, Indiana on August 22, 1942 to Arthur Melvin and Sarah Alice (Steward) Kern. He married Mary (Pratt) Kern on January 29, 1965 and they remained in a loving relationship until his passing. Bud worked for Labeco in Mooresville as a machinist in the tool and die division. He loved to attend church with Mary at Spencer First Baptist. Bud’s love of fishing earned him the title of “Crappie Killer” and he tried to be out on the lake as much as possible. He was also a wonderful trumpet player and could sing bass, passing on his love of music to his children and grandchildren. Another hobby that Bud had was flying airplanes as a pilot in his younger years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Saundra Shockley, Diana Kern, and Sharon Rosalie Kern and uncle, Paul Kern.
Bud is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kern of Gosport; children, Lonnie Kern (Cathy) of Martinsville, Mindy Collier (Tim) of Gosport, Bob Kern (Lori) of Martinsville, and Sheryl Kingston (Steven) of Martinsville; grandchildren, Amber Payne, Kirah Moore, Jonathon Kern, Jeremiah Collier, Weston Nicholson, Earl Nicholson, Amilia Nicholson, Floyd Foster, Brice Kern, Katie Fisher, Lydia Kern, Anna Kern, Robert Kern, Jr., Ezra Kern, Richard Kingston, Dean Kingston, Kristen Hoskins, Morgan Kingston, Brandon Kingston; great-grandchildren, Bailey Michelle Yount, Nora Kate Moore, Emma Collier, Owen Collier, Maddilynn Nicholson, Daniel Nicholson, Oliver Kelly, Sirius Schwartz, and Kaela Foster; aunt, Iola Kern; uncle, Larry Kern; cousins, Raymond Kern (Susie) and Paula Jean Teague (Ken); several nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home-Whitaker Chapel in Gosport on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Hudson Hill Cemetery. Friends may call upon the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
