Donald “Don” R. Gibson of Spencer passed away at IU Health Bloomington Hospital on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 with his wife, Bonnie, by his side. Don was 76.
Born in Columbus, Ohio on October 26, 1941 he was the son of the late Chester D. Gibson and Willetta G. (VanFossen) Bower. Don was well known in Spencer working in maintenance and odd jobs. Anything from landscaping to plumbing to electrical, Don could fix and do so with precision. A giving and caring man he helped people even when they couldn’t afford to pay him. Don attended the Faith Community Church in Dugger and before he lost his eyesight to illness, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Don loved his family deeply and they did so in return.
Don is survived by the love of his life, Bonnie Gibson of Spencer; sons, Donald Gibson II and wife Misti of Grove City, Ohio and Harold Daniels and wife, Cathy of Indianapolis; daughters, Tami Griffith and husband Joe of Grove City, Ohio and Cassandra Thompson of Spencer. Don loved his eleven grandchildren and one very special great-grandchild and his terrier-beagle mix, Molly, was his constant companion.
To honor Don’s wishes the family will not be holding services and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home. Chandler Funeral Home-Whitaker Chapel in Gosport is assisting with cremation arrangements.
