Eric Wayne Shields, Jr. of Martinsville passed away unexpectedly in Indianapolis at Eskenazi Hospital on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the age of 27.
Eric was the son of Eric Wayne Shields, Sr. and Heather Renee (Skirvin) Shields born in Bloomington on November 4, 1990. He worked as miner for Martin-Marietta and then just became a welder working for E-Tank in Indianapolis. On February 4, 2017 he married the love of his life, Hailey (Johnson) Shields and they started a journey of life together. Eric loved his family dearly, as they did in return, and spending time with his nieces and nephew was always his favorite. An avid outdoorsman, he could be found fishing or hunting turkey or deer and just being a part of nature, enjoying the quietness of the forest or lake. Eric was an old soul listening to a variety of music, attending many concerts to hear the artists he enjoyed most. Golfing was another activity Eric had a talent for becoming quite the player. Most of all, his love of his wife and family is what he will always be remembered for and being a great friend.
Eric will be forever missed by his wife, Hailey Shields; father, Eric W. Shields, Sr. of Ellettsville; grandfather, Bill O’Bannon of Gosport; siblings, Chelsea Farris (Jordan) of Clarksville, TN, Tyler Skirvin of Ellettsville, Michael Miller (Lauren) of Indianapolis, Clayton Shields, William Shields, Taylor Shields, Peyton Shields all of Ellettsville, Hanna Johnson, Holleigh Johnson, and Kyler Johnson all of Mooresville; nieces, Evelyn, Caroline and Haedyn; nephew, Jack; father and mother-in-law, Ken and Kelly Johnson and his faithful companion, Rambo.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Heather R. Shields and grandmother, Kathryn “Memaw” O’Bannon.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Burial is to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home.
