Erma Jean Hovious, 81, of Bloomington passed away at Garden Villa Health Care Center on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.
She was born in Bloomington on February 16, 1938 into the home of the late Theodore and Nellie (Chitwood) Kerr. She married William L. Hovious and they started their family together. Erma worked at Indiana University in the Food Services Department. She was known a great cook and enjoyed sharing her skills with her family. Erma Jean was an avid Indiana University Men's Basketball fan and while working at the University she got to know the players and students becoming life long friends with many of them. Erma Jean was known as "Mamaw Tractor" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, a name she loved to hear. Erma Jean's family meant everything to her and she was the glue that held the family together. She enjoyed traveling, music such as polka, country, and Bill Anderson. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.
Erma is survived by her husband, William L. Hovious of Bloomington; children, Jeff (Debbie) Hovious of Spencer, William D. (Meghan) Hovious of Bloomington and Tammy Patton of Bloomington; grandchildren, Carrie Turner, James Michael Hamer, Jimmy Erwin, Jeremy Erwin, Jayme Erwin, Matthew Hovious, Michael Hovious, Mark Hovious, and Jakob Hovious; 11 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Everett (Betty) Kerr of Bloomington.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with Jeff Hovious officiating. Visitation will be Monday, July 15, 2019 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville.
