Ernest Grant Pursell, of Spencer, passed away on Sunday morning, March 10, 2019 at the age of 84.
Born in Stinesville, Indiana on July 24, 1934, he was the son of Cephas and Alice Blanch (Vanover) Pursell. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and afterwards Ernest worked at Otis Elevator until his retirement. He was an outdoorsman loving to hunt and fish. Ernest liked to go to “the boat” where he was often found sitting at the same slot machine for hours, mostly winning. He was an avid IU sports fan and loved his ballgames. Ernest enjoyed looking at cars and had many different models over his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clifford, Thelma, James, Dorothy, Jesse and William.
Ernest is survived by his children, David (Sue) Pursell of Sarasota, FL, Tracy (Brad Jones) Pursell of Ellettsville and Glenn (Vanessa) Pursell of Bloomfield; grandchildren, Tomas Gregg, Neil (Brianna) Pursell, Amanda (Jesse) Sosbe, Logan (Juli) Davis, Shelley Shumake, Elizabeth Shumake, and Cassidy McGill; great-grandchildren, Torrence, Trenton, Aurora, Keely, Lucas and Amelia; and his former wife and forever friend, Sherrel Taylor.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Chambersville Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Billy Williams officiating. Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting with cremation services.
