Everett L. Libkie, 91, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2020.
He was born on March 2, 1928 in West Salem, Illinois, the son of Charles and Sadie(Smith) Libkie. Everett moved to Ellettsville, Indiana at the age of 3. He graduated from Ellettsville High School and proudly enlisted in the US Navy in 1946. After his service, he married Ruth Smith and they had 3 children together. He went on to operate the Jiffy Treat located on W St Rd 46 which he built and started with his parents. He then went on to open Libkie Refrigeration. He finished his career with RCA from which he retired. Following retirement, he taught mechanics at Bloomington Vocational High School.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and attended Sherwood Oaks Christian Church for the last several years of his life. He enjoyed golf, working in his tool shop, spending time with family and friends and traveling. “Pete” as he was called by his friends was always there with a smile, a helping hand and a great story.
He is survived by his daughters Carol Grabert, Kathy (husband Homer) Cablish, grandchildren Erin and Kevin Grabert, step-siblings Susie Frye and Don Meadows. Step-grandsons, Jake and Val Cablish.
Everett was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his son Steve Libkie, his siblings John Libkie, Faye Jackson, Joanne Shawver, and Juanita Libkie. His parents Charles and Sadie Libkie and step-mother Jewel Libkie.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 4-7 pm and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
