Janett Q. (Quattlebaum) Adkins

September 18, 1926 ~ September 8, 2018 (age 91)

Janett Q. Adkins of Ellettsville, Faithful Wife and Loving Mother, went home to her Lord in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 8, 2018.  She was 91.

Born in Dothan, Alabama on September 18, 1926, she was the only daughter of Joseph Theron and Emmie Lee (Starling) Quattlebaum.  She married J. Gene Adkins in 1946 and they started a marriage that would last 57 years until his passing in 2003.  Janett was a loving homemaker and a pastor’s wife helping her husband to start the Grace Church in Myrtle Grove, FL and after 15 years there, also pastored Church of the Open Bible in Pensacola, FL.  With her entertaining and great southern cooking skills she was the helpmate her husband needed as he worked to grow the church membership from 40 to 400. The southern gospel sings hosted by the church would many times bring standing room only crowds, contributing to the growth and earned the church’s nickname, “The Singing Church”. Gene and Janett formed the Omega World Missions, Inc in 1980, training pastors throughout the world, taking the gospel of Christ to those who had never heard. .Janett continued her role as pastor’s wife as Brother Gene accepted the invitation to become an Associate Pastor at First Assembly of God in Victorville, CA. Janett had a passion for decorating and was often asked to help redecorate the homes of friends, while keeping her own home cozy and comfy for her family, skills she passed on to her daughter, Faith.

Her life’s guiding scripture was Matthew 6:33, which, if she could talk to you today, she would encourage you to follow.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pastor J. Gene Adkins (May 10, 2003).

Janett leaves behind her daughter, Faith Brasel and her husband Pastor Frank Brasel of Ellettsville.  Janett also had many close, lifelong friends that will miss her.

At Janett’s request memorial contributions may be made to the organization that was dear to her heart, Omega World Missions, Inc. PO BOX 97, Ellettsville, Indiana 47429.

For those in the Southern California area, a graveside inurnment to lay Janett to rest next to her husband will be held at Riverside National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 with Pastor John L. Martin officiating.  Faith and Frank look forward to seeing any of you that are able to attend.  Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting with cremation arrangements.
