John H Stone, 96, of Ellettsville, formerly of Rensselaer, passed away at IU Health Bloomington Hospital on Monday, August 6, 2018.
He was born on December 3, 1921 in Lockport, IL into the home of David N. and Carolyn (Eadus) Stone. John was a farmer retiring in 1983. After retirement he worked at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer as a grounds keeper. John was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rensselaer. He loved woodworking, dancing, buying and selling cars, and having ice cream at night before he would go to bed. John owned a 1963 Studebaker Silver Hawk which he drove as much as he could. He loved animals of all kinds especially his min pin, Sophie.
John’s family would like to give special thanks to Kelli Uland from the Area 10 Agency for all her love and support for the last seven years. Also, thanks to the staff at Stonecroft Health Campus for the most gentle and loving care given to John.
John is survived by his daughters, Linda Carlson (Larry), Deborah K. Cooper, Mary Yerk (Dennis), Rita Dupes (Kevin), and Karen Brooks (Randy); grandchildren, Mike and Matt Carlson, Daniel Sipkema, Christy Bailey (Robert), Brandon, Evan (Jessica) and John Rollings, Morgan Trafelet (Jeff), and Sara and Noah Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Sipkema and Cassie Sipkema, Alex and Abby Brier, and Sophia Brooks .
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Pauline S. Stone on March 17, 2018.
Visitation will be at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Friday, August 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with funeral services at 6:00 p.m. Byron Williams from Ellettsville Christian Church is officiating. Burial will be held on Saturday at Memory Gardens in Rensselaer, Indiana at 11:00 a.m. CST.
