Lisa Kay (Gastineau) Higgins passed away early Saturday, May 19th at her home after a nine-month battle with cancer. She was able to spend her last day with family by her side. Lisa was born in Danville, Illinois to the late Loren “Butch” and Anne (Frye) Gastineau.
Lisa graduated from Edgewood High School in 1975 and attended Indiana University from 1975 through 1979 where she pursued a degree in secondary Spanish education. She worked at Grove’s Restaurant, Marlin School and Boston Scientific over the years. For the past several years she was a homemaker. She loved reading, tending to her plants and flowers and her 8-year old Pug, Tripp. She was a huge fan of IU Basketball. Lisa was not a materialistic person and chose to live a simple life. When you saw Lisa, she always asked and was genuinely interested in how you were doing.
Survivors include her husband, Randy Joseph Higgins of Bloomington and in-laws, Larry and Christa Higgins. She leaves behind five sisters, Nikki Gastineau and Mary Stout of Bloomington, Sue Tyree (Steve Campbell), Tonya Gastineau (Mike Ames) and Lynda Gastineau all of Ellettsville. She also leaves nephews and nieces, Barbara Vandagrifft, Michael Gastineau (Amie), Tyler Stout, Tre Nordo, and Oliva Nordo as well as several great nieces and nephews. The care provided by Stephanie Booker from Comfort Keepers was greatly appreciated.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; sister, Patricia “Patty” Gastineau, and infant sister, and nephew, Leo Tyree III.
Services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Scott Branam officiating. Burial is to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call upon the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 and again one hour prior to services on Thursday.
