Nellie (Torrez) Torgerson formerly of Bloomington passed away peacefully at her daughters’ home in Washington, IL on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the age of 87.
Nellie was born in Rifle, CO to the late Adolfo and Catalina (Castillo) Torrez on September 6, 1931. She worked as a secretary in the Utah State Capital and was a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Studio where she met the love of her life, Ronald Torgerson. They were married on September 18, 1954 after dancing their way into each others life. Nellie had a strong Catholic Faith and was an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church where she was involved in the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed painting and fishing. She loved her grandchildren and family dearly.
Nellie is survived by her daughter, Deborah McDade (Jerry) of Washington, IL; son, Kirk Torgerson (Jan) of Gosport; son-in-law, Jerry Etnier II of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren, Shaun McDade (Anne) of Madison, WI, Kyle Torgerson of Ellettsville, Jerry Etnier III of Ft. Wayne, Kelly Rooney (James) of Gosport, and Katy Etnier of Indianapolis; great-grandson, Elijah Rooney; step-great-grandson, Xavier Rooney; and brother Adolfo Torrez, Jr. (Stephanie).
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Ronald E. Torgerson and Teresa Etnier and sisters, Pauline Bash, Juanita Torrez, and Mary Torrez.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 with Father Daniel Mahan delivering the Mass. Visitation will be at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
