Norma Fae (Mood) Martin, age 95, of Gosport rural route, died on March 23, 2018.
Born January 20, 1923, she was the daughter of Grover Manson and Bertha (Crum) Mood. She is survived by four children, David Michael Martin, Sarah Beth Martin, Timothy John Martin, and Martha Martin Reese, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Howard Martin, on October 4, 2005, also three brothers, Lowell, Merit, and Evan Mood, and four sisters, Martha Lois Graves, Violet Byers, Annabelle Moore, and Clarice Gibbons.
She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1939 and attended Indiana University. She worked as a stenographer for the FBI in Washington, DC, and Norfolk, VA, until her marriage. As devoted wife and mother of four, she developed her gifts as a homemaker, seamstress, musician, decorator, writer, English-language tutor, genealogist, and chronicler of family history. She studied voice and conducting and contributed as singer and choir director to the congregational life of churches to which she belonged, particularly in suburban Chicago.
Before retirement, she held positions including those of Methodist missionary for four years with her husband at Forman Christian College in Lahore, Pakistan; school librarian in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; and corporate executive secretary in Oak Brook, Illinois.
At retirement, in 1981, she moved with her husband to a portion of his family farm in Bean Blossom Township, where they built their own home and where Norma lived until her death. She volunteered with organizations including Habitat for Humanity, for which she edited the newsletter and served as co-president with her husband. In support of her husband's educational and career path her life included travel to Europe, the Far East, and the Middle East as well as periods of residence in Harrisburg, PA; San Diego, CA; St. Louis, MO; Lahore, Pakistan; Chicago, IL; and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Farewell Funeral Services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow beside her husband at the Gosport Cemetery.
