Ray E. Woodward, 87, passed away at Hearthstone Health Campus on Thursday, August 9, 2018. Born November 30, 1930 in Bedford, Lawrence County, IN, he was the youngest of three children born to Walter and Pauline (Lambrecht) Woodward.
A 1949 graduate of Shawswick High School, he began his working career with Bedford Miscellaneous Iron and Steel Company, later changed to Woodward Steel, Inc., with Ray as President and CEO. He also was President of Woodward Engineering, the 3W Corp., and Dynamic Engineering in Evansville. He later served as manager of manufacturing for Baughman, Inc., a division of National Steel. After retirement, he owned and operated Discount Battery, Inc. and finished his career as a manager of rental properties.
He is survived by his children, Dan Woodward of Bedford and Vicki Woodward of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Rae Woodward of Hudson, MI; his partner, Ginny Cross of Bloomington; his stepchildren, James Dee Meadows of San Francisco, Regina Meadows of Nashville, IN, and Jamie Rose Meadows of Nashville, IN; his grandchildren, Rebecka, Nathan, Graham, Blake and Audrey Woodward; and nephews, Rev. Timothy Woodward and David Woodward.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rev. James H. Woodward; sister, Betty L. Woodward; son, Curtis J. Woodward; and wife, Genevieve “Jenny” Woodward.
A memorial service will be announced for a later date to be held at the Ellettsville First Baptist Church where Ray was a member. Cremains will be interred at Shiloh Cemetery. Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting with Ray’s arrangements.
