Shirley Ann (Johnston) Bryant

March 22, 1929 ~ July 31, 2018 (age 89)

Shirley Ann Bryant, 89 of Bloomington passed away at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Shirley Ann was born in Lawrence County, Indiana on March 22, 1929, one of 11 children of Ezra and Esther (Zikes) Johnston.  She was married to the late Frank Bryant, Jr for over 67 years until his passing in 2012. Shirley Ann, a hard-working wife and Mother, raised her family while working at Sarkas Tarzian assembling tuners and also at RCA where she tested the TV’s.  She was a member of the 11th Street Pentecostal Church and converted to Catholicism to attend Mass at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church.  She was well known for her cooking skills with no one matching her fried chicken, pork chops and gravy and her pies.  She enjoyed being in nature while gardening, tending to flowers and watching birds and working with her hands while crocheting. 

Shirley Ann is survived by her sons, Mark Wayne Bryant (Vicky) and John Franklin Bryant; daughters, Mary Ann Davis and Shirlene Kay Campbell (Dennis); nine grandchildren, Cheryl Deem, Michael Bryant, Steven Bryant, Jason Bryant, Samantha Bryant, Ryan Davis, Kevin Davis, Dennis Scott Campbell, and Sheri Kay Campbell; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 10 siblings, Marie Pritchard, Helen Eads, Roxie Hessinger, Mary Fiscus, Rita Smith, Clovis Johnston, Fred Johnston, George Johnston, Ralph Johnston, and Dewey Johnston.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Baker officiating.  Entombment is to follow services.  Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting with arrangements.
