Elsie B. (Richardson) Doige, 95, of Spencer, Indiana died Friday, June 23, 2017 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospice House.
Elsie was born on December 21, 1921 in Sidell, Illinois to the late Lester and Maggie (Kent) Richardson. The growing Richardson family moved to Brown County, Indiana before eventually settling in Spencer. Elsie was the eldest daughter of the Richardson's fourteen children.
Elsie worked at RCA in Bloomington, Indiana for ten years. In 1945, she bore her only son Jerry M. Coffey. On September 13, 1958, Elsie married Edward C. Doige in Moncton, Canada where they lived for five years before moving back to Spencer in1963. They settled on Rattlesnake Road close to family where Ed built their home and sawmill to continue his family's business. Elsie worked side-by-side with Ed in the sawmill business. Elsie was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was a beloved member of the Christian Congregation in Spencer. Because of her love for Jehovah and neighbor, she would spend much time in the ministry talking to all she met about God's Kingdom and His purpose for mankind. Despite advancing age and limited mobility, Elsie did not hesitate to use every opportunity to talk to ones about the Bible. Elsie always kept her Bible by her side and would daily read and draw encouragement from God's Word.
Elsie is survived by her son, Jerry M. (Shelley) Coffey of Spencer; her grandchildren Delisa S. (Demetrius) Witherspoon of Indianapolis, Angela (Skeeter) Bandy of Gosport, Jerry J. (Adana) Coffey of Spencer and Travis C. (Lori) Coffey of Spencer; twelve (12) great grandchildren and two (2) great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Glenn, Chester, Ira (R Jay), Herman, James, Joseph, Arthur (Bud), Paul, Melville, Lester (Dick) Richardson and her sisters Esther, Madge Clark and Betty Swank and granddaughter, Tanya Coffey.
